About Michael McAfee
Michael and Lauren McAfee 2As the son-in-law of Steve and Jackie Green, Michael McAfee has had a first-hand view of the explosive growth of the Green Collection and its related scholarship and museum initiatives. His academic and personal journeys have also prepared him for this important role as the Director of Faith Initiatives for Hobby Lobby and the Green Family.

Mr. McAfee graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a Bachelor of Arts in Letters and a Religious Studies Minor. He is completing his Masters of Divinity from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.

His educational pursuits reflect his family’s long commitment to Christian causes. He spent his childhood at First Baptist Church in Columbia, South Carolina, where his parents served on the ministerial staff. His early commitment to Christianity influenced his leadership roles in school and church and at the University of Oklahoma served as Chaplain for his fraternity. During college, he also served as Youth Pastor at First Baptist Church Purcell.

In 2009, he joined the staff at Council Road Baptist Church as their Young Adult Pastor, where he has developed a vibrant Young Professionals program in the Oklahoma City area.

He began his public teaching ministry in various churches at age 17. Michael has since become an engaging and pointed communicator from the pulpit and in addition enjoys speaking on behalf of the Green Collection, the Museum of the Bible and the Green Family to communicate the history, impact and story of the greatest Book ever written.

In 2009, Michael married his childhood best-friend Lauren Green. Lauren currently works for The Green Collection and her father Steve Green, President of Hobby Lobby. The Green Collection is the compilation of more than 40,000 antiquities which includes some of the rarest and most valuable biblical and classical pieces ever assembled under one roof. A portion of this collection is currently featured in the U.S. via the traveling exhibition Passages. It has also been featured internationally via the Verbum Domini exhibit at The Vatican in 2012 with plans to return in 2014 along with visits to several other countries. The collection will ultimately find a home in Washington D.C. at a permanent, national, non-sectarian Bible museum with a goal of opening in 2016. Michael and Lauren feel very blessed to be involved with this project. The McAfee’s are also very involved with their family, church and community and are in the process of adopting their first child.
